About 1.6 million Arab citizens of Israel, roughly 20% of the population. They live primarily in three regions: the Galilee (Nazareth, Sakhnin, Umm al-Fahm area), the Triangle (Wadi Ara, Taibe, Tira), and the Negev (Rahat and surrounding Bedouin villages). Mixed cities like Haifa, Acre, Lod, Jaffa, and Ramle have significant Arab populations alongside Jewish ones. Most are Muslim (~80%), with Christian (~9%) and Druze (~8%) minorities. Knowing this society's vocabulary is essential for any Israeli citizenship, daily life, civic engagement, mixed workplaces.
Cultural note, Israeli Arabs (also called Palestinian citizens of Israel) hold full Israeli citizenship, including Knesset representation. They speak Arabic at home, study in Arabic-language schools (ages 0-18), and use Hebrew in commerce and government. The Joint List (HaReshima HaMeshutefet) and Hadash, Ta\'al, Balad, Ra\'am are major Arab political parties. Daily coexistence varies, peaceful in mixed Haifa, more strained in Lod after May 2021.
