Tel Aviv Tech Corridor: Where the Startups Are

Lesson 219 · מִסְדְּרוֹן הַהַייטֶק

Israel\'s tech industry concentrates in a corridor stretching ~50km from Tel Aviv north through Herzliya, Ra\'anana, Petach Tikva, and Yehud, with secondary clusters in Yokneam (chips), Be\'er Sheva (cyber), and Caesarea (biotech). Around 70% of Israeli startups sit within 30km of central Tel Aviv. Sarona (Tel Aviv center), Park HaYarkon, and the Atidim park (Tel Aviv University area) are the densest urban clusters. Herzliya Pituach hosts the Israeli offices of Google, Meta, Microsoft, and Apple.

Cultural note, The "tech corridor" reshapes commute patterns. Many engineers live in Tel Aviv proper but work in Herzliya, a 20-minute drive at 8am, 50 minutes at 9am. Office locations follow employee preferences: post-2020, many companies opened "satellite" offices in Tel Aviv center (Florentin, Rothschild, Park HaYarkon) to compete for senior engineers who refused to commute to Herzliya. This decentralization is one of the few permanent COVID-era changes in Israeli tech geography.
