Scuba Eilat: Red Sea Diving Capital

Lesson 236 · צְלִילָה בְּאֵילַת

Eilat at Israel\'s southern tip is one of the world\'s top dive destinations. The Red Sea coral reefs (Coral Reserve / Shmurat HaMa\'ararim Ela\'tit), shipwreck dives (Satil, Princess), warm water year-round (~20-26°C), and visibility of 20-30m make it a magnet for divers. PADI and SSI dive shops cluster along the Eilat shore. Schools offer Open Water (~3-day course, ~1500-2500 NIS), Advanced, and Rescue. Marine life is rich: parrotfish, lionfish, moray eel, occasional reef shark, frequent sea turtles, octopus.

Cultural note, Eilat dive culture mixes serious technical divers with weekend tourists from Tel Aviv (4-hour drive south). Most international dive certifications are honored. Israeli dive instructors are known for a direct, safety-first style. The Coral Beach Reserve has a strict permit system, so book in advance. Sea-tour boats run from the marina. Dolphin Reef offers paid dolphin encounters (controversial). Swimming and snorkeling at the public beach are free; diving and snorkel rental are paid.
