The Israeli weekend is Friday-Saturday (yom shishi-shabbat). Friday morning is shopping, errands, and work for many; Friday afternoon is the market rush at Mahane Yehuda or the shuks before sundown. Friday evening is Shabbat dinner with family, chiloni-light or strictly religious. Saturday is rest, parks, beach, sleep. Saturday night ("motzei shabbat") is when bars, restaurants, and weddings reopen. Many Israelis describe the weekend as their reset, it is structurally important to Israeli life.
Cultural note, "Yom shishi" (Friday) is busier than Saturday: final shopping, last buses, work ending around 1pm, restaurants packed for Friday lunch. Sundown to Saturday evening = official Shabbat: many shops closed, no public transit in Jewish-majority areas, kosher restaurants closed unless secular. Tel Aviv stays semi-open with cafes, beach, and secular venues. Jerusalem is much more closed. Saturday night ("motzei shabbat") is explosive activity, clubs, weddings, and music venues all reopen at 8-9pm. Knowing the weekend rhythm = knowing Israel.
