Vocational & Professional: Trades, Tech, Certificates

Lesson 259 · הַכְשָׁרָה מָקְצוֹעִית

Israeli vocational education is robust: technical high schools (tichon technologi), 2-year colleges (mishaltiyot), professional certifications (machshiv), and tech bootcamps (Hack-IL, Cyberbit, ITC, Coding Academy, App-Sage). Hand-on trades: chashmalim (electricians), chashmalim mam'siyim (industrial electricians), nagarim (carpenters), bnaim (builders), tankaim (mechanics). High-demand certifications: AWS, Microsoft, Israeli IDF Tech specialties post-discharge. Funded options: Misrad HaKlita scholarships for olim, IDF post-discharge programs.

Cultural note, Vocational education is socially less prestigious than university but increasingly respected, Israeli tech industry hires hundreds of bootcamp graduates each year. Anglo olim often skip university and go directly to coding bootcamp or AWS certification. Cyberbit (cybersecurity training, ex-Cyber Reason) is industry-leading. The IDF discharge bonus (4,000-15,000 NIS) often funds first vocational training. Female olim find specific scholarship programs through MASA, ZIONESS, EZRA, plus IDF reservist tracks.
