Relative Clauses

Lesson 26 · משפטי זיקה

Hebrew uses one tiny word, שֶׁ (she-), for "that, which, who". It attaches as a prefix to whatever follows. הָאִישׁ שֶׁאֲנִי מַכִּיר (ha-ish she-ani makir) "the man (that) I know". Crucial for building real sentences.

שֶׁ vs אֲשֶׁר, שֶׁ (she-) is everyday spoken Hebrew. אֲשֶׁר (asher) is the literary/biblical form, same meaning. You'll see asher in formal writing, prayers, songs.
