Kvish 6: Trans-Israel Highway

Lesson 269 · כְּבִישׁ 6

Kvish 6 (Highway 6) is Israel's only major north-south toll highway, ~145 km running parallel to the more congested Kvish 2/Kvish 4 + Coastal Highway. Operated by Derech Eretz / Israel Roads under BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) concession until 2029. Ranges Hadera (north) to Sderot (south). Tolls: ~25-50 NIS one-way depending on origin/destination. Electronic ID via license plate (matzlemot l\'hach mispar), no manual booths. Trans-Israel Hwy + intercity rail (Israel Railways) shape commute geography.

Cultural note, Kvish 6 is Israel\'s "premium" highway, when you\'re late and have NIS, take 6. The standard Kvish 2 (coastal) is free but congested in rush hour (7-9am, 5-7pm). Many Israelis drive 6 only when justified (faster, less stress). Tolls automated via Pelephone-style billing or Mas Pat (toll card). The whole stretch saves ~30-60 minutes compared to coastal during rush. Electric vehicle owners (Tesla, BYD) increasingly use 6. Israel Railways (Rakevet) covers similar corridor with dedicated lines.
