Sal Klita ("Absorption Basket") is the Israeli government's financial support package for new olim. Total over 5-7 years: ~30,000-100,000 NIS depending on family size, age, country of origin, and other variables. Key components: kupat klita (monthly stipend, 6-12 months), housing rental subsidy (sechirah), Hebrew ulpan funding, retraining funds (chofesh limudim), tax breaks, kupa healthcare, mortgage discounts. Sal Klita is automatic upon Misrad HaKlita registration, but you must claim each component.
Cultural note, Sal Klita is the most underutilized resource for olim. Most know about kupat klita stipend; fewer know about retraining funds (chofesh limudim 50% subsidy for studies), discounted university tuition (~50% reduction first 3 years), free Hebrew up to Hey level, employment-focused training. Anglo olim often miss out by not knowing the system; Russian-Israeli vatikim guide newcomers. As of 2024, the digital portal (gov.il) automated some claims. Single olim get less than couples; couples less than families with kids; oleh hadash from "distress countries" (Ukraine, Venezuela) get expanded packages.
