Outdoor & Amphitheater Concerts

Lesson 465 · קוֹנְצֶ\'רְטִים תַּחַת כִּפַּת הַשָּׁמַיִם

Israeli summer means outdoor concerts. The Caesarea Roman Amphitheatre (~3,800 seats) hosts two months of nightly shows under stars. Sultan\'s Pool below the Old City of Jerusalem, the Park HaYarkon main lawn (Madonna, Pink Floyd, the Rolling Stones), the Ra\'anana Amphitheatre, and the smaller Dimona / Beersheba / Mevaseret venues round out the circuit. This lesson covers the major outdoor stages, the festival programming, the practical vocabulary (folding chair, water, exit gate), and what to expect at a Caesarea evening.

Cultural note, Caesarea is the iconic Israeli concert venue. The amphitheatre was built by Herod 2,000 years ago, the Mediterranean is 50 metres behind the stage, the Crusader port is at the foot of the seats. Most major Israeli artists do an annual Caesarea show as a career marker, it is more prestigious than any indoor venue. Bring water and a light layer; the sea breeze cools fast after sunset.
