Food in Hebrew idioms reveals priorities: bread (לֶחֶם) means livelihood, salt (מֶלַח) means truth, milk and honey (חָלָב וּדְבַשׁ) means abundance. The Israeli kitchen is also the Israeli philosophy.
Cultural reality, When an Israeli says לֶחֶם וְמַיִם (bread and water), they mean "the bare minimum for survival." When they say חָלָב וּדְבַשׁ (milk and honey), they mean paradise. The food spectrum maps the life spectrum.
