Root ר־ו־ם: height

Roots Atlas 206 · שֹׁרֶשׁ ר ו ם · the height root
ר ו ם
r · (w) · m
everything to do with height, raising, exalting
7 words · 1 root · 2 verb-voices

Three consonants carry one idea: high. This is a hollow root (ע״ו): the middle letter ו hides inside the vowels, so the verb "to lift" looks like לְהָרִים rather than a clean three-letter shape. From height Hebrew climbs to the summit, the plateau, the act of lifting, and even the donation, the gift you "raise up" and set apart. Every word here is verified against pealim, niqqud included.

The verb across the binyanim (voices)

The same root runs through the verb system. Each binyan is a voice: it bends the one idea into active, passive, causative or reciprocal. Tap to hear.

Pi'el
לְרוֹמֵםleromem
intensive / specialized active
to raise, to elevate, to exalt
Hif'il
לְהָרִיםleharim
causative, make someone do it
to raise, to lift up

Because the root is hollow (the ו vanishes into vowels), the verbs look irregular: the everyday hif'il לְהָרִים "to lift" keeps no visible ו, while the pi'el לְרוֹמֵם "to exalt" doubles into a fuller, more solemn form. No plain pa'al verb is lexicalized; the static "high" idea lives in the adjective רָם below.

Decode it yourself

Strip the prefixes, suffixes and vowels. Three consonants remain, and the meaning lives there.
