The psychometric exam (Bechinah Psychometric / Psichometri) is Israel\'s standardized university entrance test, administered ~5 times per year by the National Institute for Testing and Evaluation (Mercaz HaMisbar). Three sections: kamut (quantitative, math/logic), milulit (verbal, Hebrew language), and english. Score range: 200-800 per section, 800 max overall (totality). Combined with the Bagrut for university admission. Most students prep 6-12 months with private courses (Kaplan-style intensive) costing 5,000-15,000 NIS.
Cultural note, Psychometric is the Israeli SAT, but more decisive. Top universities require ~720+ for elite programs (medicine, law, computer science). Test prep companies dominate the landscape: Kidum, MAALOT, Highlearning. There\'s strong demand for the English-language version (yes, available, but accepts Bagrut English in lieu of psych English). Students often retake to improve. Olim can request Russian, English, or French versions. Retaking the psychometric is socially normal, many candidates take 2-3 attempts.
