B2 Reading: Newspapers, Op-eds, Long Articles

Lesson 291 · קְרִיאָה בְּרָמָה B2

CEFR B2 reading means understanding most of a Hebrew newspaper article on a familiar topic without a dictionary. You can follow the main argument of an op-ed, identify the writer's stance, understand idiomatic phrases, and infer meaning from context. Target speed: ~200 words per minute on standard journalistic Hebrew. Sources for practice: Haaretz, Yediot Aharonot, Israel Hayom, TheMarker (business), Globes, Calcalist.

Cultural note, Hebrew journalism uses heavier formal register than spoken Hebrew. Past-tense narrative dominates. Acronyms appear constantly (אר"ן, חכ"ל, צה"ל, מד"א). Op-eds carry strong political identity, Haaretz left-liberal, Israel Hayom right-populist, Yediot center. To reach B2 fast, read the same article in two papers and compare framings.
