Vocabulary Capstone: 5,000 Words for B2/C1

Lesson 297 · סִכּוּם אוֹצַר מִילִים

CEFR B2 active vocabulary is roughly 4,000-5,000 words. Passive comprehension covers ~10,000. By this lesson you should know: ~1,000 high-frequency function words, ~1,500 daily-life nouns, ~1,000 verbs across binyanim, ~500 abstract concepts, ~500 domain-specific terms (politics, business, health, tech). This lesson catalogs the highest-impact word families to fill gaps. Use the Anki SRS technique for the last 1,000 words you don\'t know.

Cultural note, Hebrew word frequency follows Zipf, the top 100 words cover ~50% of any text. The next 1,000 cover ~75%. Beyond that, vocabulary growth is domain-specific. The fastest B2→C1 path: read 3 articles per day in 3 different domains (news, business, science), look up unknown words, add to Anki, review daily. 1,000 new words in 6 months is realistic.
