Beyond Batsheva, Israeli contemporary dance lives in a constellation of independent companies: Vertigo Dance Company (founded 1992 by Noa Wertheim), Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company (Rami Be\'er, Ga\'aton), Yasmeen Godder Group (Jaffa-based), Inbal Pinto / Avshalom Pollak Dance, Ronen Izhaki, and a younger generation of soloists/duets. This lesson maps the field, who runs each, what their signature is, where they perform, and how to read their work.
Cultural note, Israeli contemporary dance is one of the country\'s most respected cultural exports. International festivals (ImPulsTanz Vienna, Sadler\'s Wells London, BAM New York) regularly programme Israeli companies. The funding structure relies heavily on the Ministry of Culture and on co-production with European venues; only Batsheva has a budget to live primarily on box-office. The smaller groups operate on grants, residencies, and project-based contracts, the dancers take Gaga classes between gigs.
